Simamkele Dlakavu is a lecturer in the gender studies department at the University of Cape Town and holds a master’s degree in African literature from the University of the Witwatersrand. She is currently working toward her Ph.D. in political science and has been active in movements calling for an intersectional decolonial reality in South Africa. Simamkele has worked as a human rights television producer on The Big Debate, one of South Africa’s most popular current affairs shows, and has written for South Africa’s leading newspapers and for academic journals about feminism, colonialism and allyship.
