Gustavo Souza
Doha Debates Ambassador 2022
Gustavo Souza is a young Black LGBTQ+ person who has been engaged in internet governance since 2016, when he was funded by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee to attend his first Internet Governance Forum. In 2017, he successfully completed CopyrightX, a course offered by the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. In late 2021, he earned a law degree at Universidade Federal do Acre in Rio Branco, Brazil, by presenting an undergraduate thesis based on his research about freedom of expression and political propaganda on the internet. Since 2022, Gustavo has been working on two initiatives: one for emancipating digital rights in Brazil, and the other against online environmental disinformation in the Amazon rainforest, where he lives. Gustavo enjoys the topics of technology, the natural environment and intersections related to minority groups’ rights. Gustavo is a member of the second cohort of Doha Debates ambassadors, and is one of six mentors for the 2024 cohort.
