Qatar–Argentina 2025 Year of Culture
On September 24, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, Doha Debates held a thought-provoking town-hall-style debate on the future of cities. Under the guiding question “How should we reinvent the city?” the debate tackled the urgent challenges facing urban life as nearly 70% of the global population prepares to live in cities by 2050.

Moderated by Malika Bilal, this event features experts Guadalupe Granero Realini, Akel Ismail Kahera and Nicholas Boys Smith, joined on stage by students and recent graduates from Qatar, Argentina and Chile. Together, they explore competing visions for urban futures: Should cities become denser, more productive, and built for global competition? Should they prioritize dignity, inclusion, community and justice? Or, as city life becomes more costly and centralized, should we rethink the model and make room for smaller towns and rural ways of living?
The town hall adds a crucial topic of conversation to the Qatar-Argentina 2025 Year of Culture calendar. It unites cultural diplomacy and dialogue to inspire young voices and shape shared futures.
