Ameenah Gurib-Fakim was the first female president of Mauritius, serving from 2015 to 2018. Prior to her presidency, she was the managing director of the Centre International de Développement Pharmaceutique (CIDP) as well as a professor of organic chemistry. She’s been honored as one of Foreign Policy‘s 2015 global thinkers. She has also written and co-edited 26 books in the field of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
