About Randa Abdel-Fattah

Randa Abdel-Fattah is an Australian-born writer of Palestinian and Egyptian parentage. She is the multi award-winning author of 11 novels and is published in over 17 countries. This literary corpus primarily deals with race, gender, identity, belonging, and political consciousness among young Australians. Randa’s internationally acclaimed debut novel, Does My Head Look Big In This? is currently being adapted to a feature film. Randa has worked as a lawyer, human rights advocate and volunteer with different human rights and migrant and refugee resource community organizations. Randa is also well known for her commentary as a public intellectual, her media appearances and her social justice activism. She has a PhD in Sociology and is a researcher on Islamophobia, gender, youth identities and the ‘war on terror’ at Macquarie University in Sydney. She is the author of Islamophobia and Everyday Multiculturalism and co-editor of the 2019 anthology Arab, Australian, Other: Stories on Race and Identity. Her latest book, to be published in August 2020, is Growing Up in the Age of Terror, and is based on her interviews and writing workshops with high school and university students in Australia. Randa lives in Sydney with her husband and four children.
