Akel Ismail Kahera
Director of HBKU’s Islamic architecture and sustainable urbanism graduate program
Dr. Akel Ismail Kahera serves as both director and professor of the Islamic architecture and sustainable urbanism graduate degree program at Hamid Bin Khalifa University’s College of Islamic Studies in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Kahera has held multiple academic and administrative positions: professor and dean at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts in Qatar, professor and associate dean at Clemson University, and professor and director at Prairie View A&M University. He is a trustee member of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture, and Urbanism (INTBAU) and an editorial board member of the Journal of New Design Ideas, among others.
