Dorian Abbot
Professor of Geophysics, University of Chicago
Dorian Abbot is a Full Professor in the Department of Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 2011. He completed his undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. degrees at Harvard University, earning his doctorate in Applied Mathematics in 2008 with a dissertation on cloud feedback and climate. Before joining Chicago, he held postdoctoral positions at Harvard and the University of Chicago. His research focuses on climate dynamics, paleoclimates and planetary habitability, with particular interest in exoplanet climates and the conditions that allow life. In addition to his scientific work, Abbot has been active in public debates on academic freedom and university governance.
