About Randa Slim

Dr. Randa Slim is a foreign policy professional and founding director of the Initiative for Track II Dialogues at the Middle East Institute, where she is a non-resident fellow. She is also a non-resident fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Foreign Policy Institute. Dr. Slim is a long-term practitioner of Track II diplomacy (conflict-resolution conversations that are not part of official Track I talks), specializing in peacebuilding, negotiation, democratization and post-conflict reconciliation in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. Her interest in Track II diplomacy came from her experiences as a girl during the Lebanese Civil War. From 1991–2000, she worked at the Kettering Foundation on the Dartmouth Conferences and was part of the multi-year Inter-Tajik Dialogue. After the September 11 attacks, Dr. Slim became involved in Track II diplomacy in the Middle East. Since 2004, she has convened Track I.5-II dialogues focused on conflicts in Iraq and Syria, US-Russia and US-Turkey bilateral relations and future regional cooperation frameworks in the Middle East.
