Sumi Alkebsi

Sumi Alkebsi

Doha Debates Director of Communications and Marketing

About Sumi Alkebsi

Sumi Alkebsi is director of communications and marketing at Doha Debates, where she leads the organization’s global marketing, public relations and strategic communications across its debates, podcasts, town halls and youth initiatives.

Previously, Sumi worked at Qatar Foundation International in the communications and youth engagement departments. Before that, she led initiatives in the startup field, focusing on public relations, marketing and content management. She began her professional journey at The Yemen Times in Sana’a, Yemen, where she reported, copyedited and collaborated with editors to strengthen the quality and reach of the country’s most widely read English-language newspaper.

Sumi earned her Bachelor’s degree in communications, with a minor in religious studies, from Marymount University, graduating magna cum laude, and her Master’s degree in digital marketing and data analytics from Emerson College, graduating summa cum laude.

Her work sits at the intersection of media, culture and behavior. She is particularly interested in how insights from behavioral science and behavioral economics can inform narrative strategy, deepen audience engagement and support more constructive dialogue.

As an Arab American with roots and passion in both the United States and the SWANA region, Sumi enjoys moving fluidly between cultures and languages. She believes that rigorous, good-faith conversation can expand understanding, and that thoughtful communication design is essential to making that conversation possible at scale.
