Sumi Alkebsi
Doha Debates Director of Communications and Marketing
Sumi Alkebsi is director of communications and marketing at Doha Debates, where she leads the organization’s global marketing, public relations and strategic communications.
Previously, Sumi worked at Qatar Foundation International in the communications and youth engagement departments. Before that, she led initiatives in the startup field, focusing on public relations, marketing, and content management. Sumi cut her teeth at the Yemen Times in Sana’a, Yemen, where she wrote articles, copy edited, and collaborated with the editorial team to improve reporting quality at the country’s most widely read English-language newspaper.
Sumi has a Bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in religious studies from Marymount University and a Master’s in digital marketing and data analytics at Emerson College. Sumi’s interests include social media, intercultural communications, Arab studies, and learning new languages. She is especially interested in the intersection of communications and behavioral science, and is currently exploring how behavioral economics can inform narrative strategy, audience engagement, and cross-cultural dialogue.
As an Arab American with roots and passion in both the United States and the SWANA region, Sumi enjoys moving fluidly between cultures and languages. She strongly believes in the power of cross-cultural collaboration. Her conviction in global citizenship led her to join the Doha Debates team and continues to shape her commitment to fostering mutual understanding and global awareness.
